South African singer Makhadzi was abruptly interrupted while performing at her show in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The 26-year-old performer took off the stage after a stampede occurred leading to some violence.
Reports say some concert-goers began throwing missiles at the VIP section resulting in an undisclosed number of fans reportedly injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Initial reports suggested that the violence erupted because the Nickelodeon Favourite African star winner decided to use pre-recorded tracks through her performance. While another report revealed that the venue was overcrowded, resulting in a stampede as fans fought to record the songstress on their phones.
Veteran show organiser Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza finally spoke up about the incident, offering an apology to the South African star. He cleared the air admitting that bottles were thrown but not targeted at Makhadzi.
He put the record straight, “It’s true that bottles were thrown onto the stage but they were not targeted at Makhadzi as claimed on social media and other media outlets. When Makhadzi appeared on stage, fans jostled to catch a glimpse of her and broke barricades demarcating the VIP enclosure and ordinary side.”
Following his statement of apology to the SA hitmaker and her team, he begged fans to desist from violent behaviour during live shows. Makhadzi who is known for her energetic performance was expected to thrill fans on Good Friday before disaster ensued.
