Malawi‘s Ambassador to Ethiopia Charles Msosa died on Tuesday at the age of 63, according to a statement from the President and Cabinet Office.
The diplomat died around 9pm at the Nordic Medical Centre in Addis Ababa after a brief illness, according to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We express our deepest sympathies and share this moment of sadness and loss with the Msosa family and the entire nation,” President Lazarus Chakwera said in a statement.
He described the diplomat as a dedicated public servant who contributed immensely to the country´s cordial relationship with other nations.
The President praised the diplomat as a committed public worker who made a significant contribution to the country’s friendly relations with foreign countries.
Also, in a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has expressed its “profound sadness” on the passing away of Ambassador Msosa.
The ministry also conveyed “the deepest sympathy to the Government and people of Malawi on their loss and wishes for consolation to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”
Between 2013 and 2021, Ambassador Msosa worked in many government departments and served as the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He was also Permanent Representative to the African Union.
After being assigned as envoy to Addis Ababa and the African Union, Ambassador Msosa presented his letters of credence to Ethiopian President Hailemariam Desalegn in January.
He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States with a master’s degree in public administration.
