Mali Declares Three Days of mourning Over Slain Soldiers (News Central TV)

Mali has declared three days of mourning following a deadly attack on Malian soldiers which resulted in the death of about 27 troops.

This comes after 27 Malian soldiers were killed and 33 injured in an attack on a central Mali military base in the town of Mondoro on Friday.

According to a news announcement issued by Mali’s military administration, seven troops remain missing. 47 terrorists were also neutralized on the morning of the attack, and another 23 later that day.

Three days of mourning declared

The invasion comes after the military government, which seized power in a coup in 2020, demanded the French military to leave Malian territory immediately in February.

The French military has been in Mali since 2013 when it intervened in an effort to reclaim northern Mali from insurgents. However, both Malian and French forces have failed to suppress an insurgency that has spread from northern Mali to the country’s centre since then.
