Malian Authorities have released former interim president Bah Ndaw and prime minister Moctar Ouane from house arrest on Friday.
Bah Ndaw and Prime minister Ouane were detained by military officers in May following a second coup since the ouster of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in August 2020.
Alarmed by the development, regional bodies powers mobilised to pressure Assimi Goïta to ensure a smooth return to civil rule through democratic elections initially scheduled for February 2022.
Representatives of West African regional bloc ECOWAS and the African Union, said in a statement that it welcomed a decision to lift initial restrictions placed on Mali.
“The committee reaffirms its support for the process of transition in Mali,” it said.
