Transitional President of Mali Bah N’Daw resigned on Wednesday. His resignation was presented to Assimi Goita, the transitional vice president, during an emergency meeting with
former Nigerian president Jonathan Goodluck and his delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and the UN.

Interim President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane were tasked with steering the country back to civilian rule after a coup in August.

A member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) mediation mission confirmed the president’s resignation. Ndaw and Ouane had been heading the interim government with the declared aim of restoring full civilian rule.

Young military officers ousted president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita last August after weeks of demonstrations over perceived government corruption and his handling of the militant insurrection.
