Mali’s army announced on Sunday that it killed approximately 40 militants and dismantled a major insurgent base in two recent operations aimed at stabilising the country.
In the first operation on Thursday, Malian forces reportedly destroyed an “enemy base” in Ounguel, neutralising around 30 militants and seizing weapons, ammunition, and 24 motorbikes, according to a military statement. A second mission on Friday resulted in 10 additional insurgents killed, along with the capture of vehicles and equipment.
Since the 2020 and 2021 military coups, Mali’s junta has prioritised security, combatting terrorist groups and separatist insurgents destabilising the region.
