Malta will reopen its embassy in Libya and immediately resume flights to the oil-rich North African country as disclosed by the Prime Minister of Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abela during his visit to Tripoli on Monday.
“We are going to reopen our embassy and our consulate in Libya in the coming days,” Abela told a news conference in Tripoli, standing alongside Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.
“Air links will also be restored,” Abela added.
For a long time, no foreign airline flies into Libya for security reasons. The Oil-rich nation has been torn by conflict since the toppling and killing of dictator Muammar Gaddafi a decade ago.
Dbeibah, who was selected in a UN-sponsored process to lead Libya to December 24 elections, hopes to see ties with Malta boosted.
