Ekiti State Amotekun Corps agents arrested Oluwabunmi Anifowose, 34, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area, Ekiti State.
Brigadier General Olu Adewa (retd.), Commander of the Ekiti Amotekun Corps, said the suspect was apprehended on Saturday in a hideout in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he had fled to avoid arrest.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of Communications for the Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, the juvenile was taken on an errand to get fufu from another street when she was approached by the suspects, resulting in the rape incident.
The corps commander stated, “The Amotekun officers stated that the suspect was arrested in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he was hiding himself among colleagues suspected of being cult members.
“The suspect has been handed over to the police at Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action.”
He added that Amotekun operatives at Ikole Ekiti also on the same day arrested two men—30-year-old Mr. Usman Sheidu and 32-year-old gateman Mr. Olalekan Aluko—for allegedly stealing an iron door at the Oke-ljebu Agege area in the Ikole Local Government Area.
He stated, “During interrogation by Amotekun cops, the two suspects confessed to the crime. The duo has now been turned over to the Divisional Police in Ikole Ekiti for further investigation.
Adewa, who stated that there was no place for criminals to hide in the state, urged locals to provide information that would assist security officials, including Amotekun, in apprehending suspects and preventing crimes from being committed.
