A father of two has died of complications related to coronavirus (COVID-19) hours after arriving in Canada from Lagos, Nigeria.
Canada requires in-bound travellers to test negative for the virus, but despite this rule the North American country has recorded 139 COVID-19 infected flights in two weeks.
The 47-year-old man had reportedly taken a COVID-19 test before departure from Nigeria but hadn’t received the results.
Around 6.30 a.m – Canadian Time – medics were called to a house on Doug Walton Lane in Newcastle, Durham Region, Southern Ontario after the deceased complained of shortness of breath and loss of taste.
Paramedics were told he had arrived in Canada from Africa the previous day, and told 911 he believed he had COVID-19.
The man arrived in Toronto on a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit Tuesday morning. He got on a connecting Toronto-bound flight after flying from Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta.
The married father of two was pronounced dead at the scene and the Canadian Border Services Agency, reports added.
