An unidentified man has been electrocuted while attempting to vandalise a power transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.
According to a source, the community has been grappling with theft and damage of electrical wires from their transformer.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. She revealed that the man climbed into the transformer house and was electrocuted while attempting to cut a wire.
The chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, reported the incident to the police around 10:20 am on Friday.
Ajagbe said he received a call at about 7 am to inspect the transformer and found the lifeless body of the man alongside evidence of attempted vandalism.
Police detectives visited the scene, documented evidence, and contacted the PHCN office. The man’s body was taken to General Hospital Ifo mortuary for an autopsy and preservation.
