Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has conceded that Everton boss David Moyes has done a superior job in turning around his side’s fortunes compared to his own efforts at Old Trafford.
As United prepares to face Everton on Saturday, Amorim is under growing scrutiny, having managed just four wins while suffering eight defeats in the Premier League since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November.
Meanwhile, Moyes—who was dismissed by United in 2014 after less than a season in charge—has already equalled Amorim’s win tally in just six league matches since rejoining Everton in January. The Toffees currently sit 14th in the table, one spot above 15th-placed United, adding extra weight to their final clash at Goodison Park before Everton relocate to a new stadium next season.
When asked why Everton improved under Moyes while United continued to struggle, Amorim gave a frank response: “Simple thing. David Moyes is doing a better job than me. It’s quite simple. And then small things like winning one game, winning two games, that belief. The pressure is also not the same.

“I don’t know but I think we have to give merit to the players of Everton and especially to the coach of Everton and that’s all. We need to do the same.”
Amorim has previously acknowledged that both his predecessor, Ten Hag, and former United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy—now at Leicester—produced better results at Old Trafford this season.
Moyes’ brief tenure at United ended after just 10 months, with his final game being a 2-0 defeat to Everton. Another loss to his former club this weekend would intensify the pressure on Amorim. There are also reports that some United players remain unconvinced by his methods. However, the Portuguese coach dismissed concerns over a lack of belief within the squad. “I don’t sense that in training,” he insisted.
Amorim also reiterated that he has no regrets about taking the United job mid-season, even though he had initially preferred to wait until the summer to complete the campaign with Sporting before starting fresh at a new club.
When asked if he had second thoughts about his decision, Amorim was resolute. “No. When you make a decision, you commit fully.”
