Erik ten Hag has insisted there is no need for panic despite Manchester United’s disappointing start to the season, which has sparked speculation about his future at Old Trafford. United currently sit 13th in the Premier League, having won only two of their first six matches, including humiliating 3-0 home losses to Liverpool and Tottenham.
Their troubles have extended to the Europa League, where they were held to a 1-1 draw against Dutch side FC Twente. Despite the setbacks, Ten Hag remains confident he can turn things around.
“Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about because I experienced it so often with my teams during seasons that you are facing those problems,” Ten Hag says.
Erik Ten Hag survived an internal review led by new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe at the end of last season, with reports suggesting a shock FA Cup victory over Manchester City played a part in keeping him in the role. United finished eighth in the Premier League last term but managed to lift both the League Cup and FA Cup during Ten Hag’s two seasons in charge.
The Dutchman is expected to be given a chance to recover with upcoming games against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League. Ten Hag also stressed the club’s commitment to a long-term strategy, particularly the integration of young players during a transition period.
“We made in the summer togetherness, the ownership, the leadership, this agreement, and we are all behind it,” Ten Hag added.
United could be boosted by the return of Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo for Thursday’s clash with Porto, while Mason Mount will be rested after suffering a head injury in Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham.
