Manchester City’s Foden Named Player of the Season

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been announced as the Premier League’s Player of the 2023/24 season, after his sensational season have put club on the brink of a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The honour is the latest received by Foden following a superb individual season, with the 23-year-old also named Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year earlier in the week.

Foden, who has scored 17 goals and set up a further 8 in the Premier League this season, becomes the fifth consecutive Man City player to win the Player of the Year award.

Foden said: “To win this award is an extremely proud achievement. The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs”.

‘I’d like to thank the City staff, coaches, and especially my teammates because this wouldn’t have been possible without them. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me, as the award means a lot.’ He added.

Foden was nominated alongside teammate and last year’s winner Erling Haaland and Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

Also in the mix were Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Cole Palmer was announced as the Young Player of the Year on Friday.
