The body of Archbishop Desmond Tutu was carried Thursday into the historic St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa where he once railed against the white rule to allow South Africans to bid farewell to the anti-apartheid icon.

As mourners filed past the coffin, paying their last respect to Tutu, ANC MP  Mandla Mandela called on South Africans and global citizens to continue with the remarkable work left behind by the Arch and his late grandfather Nelson Mandela.

Mandla Mandela delivered a tribute to the late Archbishop Emeritus at a private memorial function at the Old Granary hosted by the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.

He said Tutu left behind a huge legacy for us to speak the truth especially when it comes to the corruption in the country.

Mandela added: “What we will also treasure is that arch always challenged my grandfather and push him particularly on the issues they differed on.”

“So to be here and look back at my grandfather’s own mammon to when he was lying in the state almost brings you to the realisation that this generation that paved the way to our freedom is becoming no more.”

Earlier, representatives of the interfaith group participated in the laying of wreaths, many recalled their fond and most profound memories of the Archbishop.
