Bayern Munich started their preseason with an impressive 27-0 victory against FC Rottach-Egern, a ninth-tier German team. The match saw several players shine, with four of them scoring hat tricks or more. Jamal Musiala, Marcel Sabitzer, and 18-year-old Mathys Tel all scored five goals each, while Serge Gnabry netted three. New signing Raphael Guerreiro, who joined from Borussia Dortmund, made an immediate impact with two goals. Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman also contributed to the scoreline.
This win surpassed the previous encounter between Bayern Munich and Rottach-Egern in 2019, where they won 23-0. The match served as part of Bayern’s preseason training camp in Tagernsee, close to the Austrian border.
Off the pitch, Bayern Munich made notable moves, including the signing of Kim Min-Jae from Napoli and the appointment of Christoph Freund as the sporting director. Kim, a South Korean international, is a tall and versatile defender who played a key role in Napoli’s recent Serie A triumph.
“He impresses with his physical presence, as well as his mentality and speed,” Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said. “We’re pleased he can immediately take part fully in preseason and firmly believe that he will also excite our fans with his style of play.”
Bayern’s preseason preparations will feature high-profile friendlies against Manchester City and Liverpool, followed by their Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen on August 18. Prior to that, they will face RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup on August 12 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Meanwhile, according to Sky Germany’s report, Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has made the decision to sell Mane in the upcoming weeks. Interestingly, the club is even prepared to accept a loss on the Β£35m they paid for him last summer, with a speculated sum of Β£27.5m. However, it is important to note that while Mane’s departure from the club is still a possibility, the former Liverpool player remains resolute in his determination to turn things around in Germany.
Although Mane may express his desire to continue his tenure at Bayern Munich, it remains uncertain whether Tuchel will persist with the versatile forward. This uncertainty arises from Tuchel’s recent criticism of Mane over the weekend.
“Basically, Sadio had an unsatisfactory season and fell short of expectations. The competitive situation is extremely high for him with Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, we have a constellation which makes it very difficult for Sadio. The player knows that too, he knows my opinion and the opinion of the club.”
Tuchel continued: “Let’s see. Crazy things have happened in football. Ultimately, the starting position is not easy. Time will make us a little smarter.”
