Marseille rose to second in the Ligue 1 table with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nantes on Sunday. Jonathan Rowe’s assist set up Neal Maupay for the opener, while Mason Greenwood secured the win with a calm finish from the edge of the area in the 61st minute.
Despite controlling possession with nearly 75% of the ball, Marseille found it difficult to break down a resilient Nantes side, who levelled the game through Tino Kadewere just before halftime.
With this victory, Marseille moved ahead of Monaco, who slipped up against Angers on Saturday, both clubs now sitting on 20 points after ten games. Paris Saint-Germain remains six points clear at the top after narrowly beating Lens.
The defeat extended Nantes’ winless streak to seven games, dropping them to 14th in the league, just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
