Tanzanians celebrated their Easter Monday without electricity after the Tanzania Electric Company (TANESCO) experienced some issues in the transmission system at the national electricity grid on April 1.
Utility Firm Spokesperson Kenneth Boymanda informed consumers earlier of a fault in the electricity transmission system which started at 2:22 am.
All regions connected to the grid experienced a total power outage.
“Our experts are continuing their efforts to restore services,” Boymanda said.
The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project recently added 235 MW to Tanzania‘s national grid, reducing power shortages.
The government expects an 85% decrease in power cuts, benefiting East Africa. However, an Easter Monday outage occurred due to a technical fault at the Kidatu hydroelectric power plants.
Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko directed personnel to restore electricity supply. Efforts to fix the issue are underway, including replacing faulty systems at the Kidatu station.
Some regions have already restored power using alternative sources like the Pangani and Ubungo number 2 power plants.
