A massive gas pipeline leakage around Computer Village /Underbridge Awolowo Way and Oba Akran in the Ikeja area of Lagos has been reported and residents have been advised to avoid activities that could cause combustion.
Emergency responders from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Federal and State fire services have arrived at the location where the leakage was noticed Wednesday morning.
The police from Area B Command, Ikeja cordoned off the area ahead of the arrival of responders.
The leakage is said to have occurred from a gas supply pipeline that feeds industries in the Ikeja industrial area.
The South-West Region Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, in a WhatsApp message, advised people to try as much as possible to avoid the area.
He said: “Residents around Computer Village/Underbridge, Awolowo Way and Oba Akran axis, Onifowose Street, Medical Road must not open shops or use open naked fire for safety reasons.
“Distressed alert just received indicates massive leakage of gas pipeline around these areas. Let us take utmost safety precautions” he warned.
