Former Prime Minister and ex-President of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth has died at the age of 91.
Jugnauth was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius.
Overtaking Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who held the office for 14 years, the 91-year-old politician was the longest-serving Prime Minister for six terms; a stint of 18 years, beginning from 1982.
Jugnauth was considered the father of the Mauritian economic miracle of the 1980s.
He was Prime minister from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. After completing his tenure, he served as the President of Mauritius from 2003 to 2012.
He represented Piton & Riviere Du Rempartin the parliament during his political career.
