The national radio and television broadcaster of China, China Media Group (CMG), sponsored a conference on Wednesday in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, with the theme “China and the World Embarking on a New Journey.”

60 media executives, specialists, and academics from 20 different nations offered their knowledge on how to create a community between China and Africa with a common future.

According to Thomas Mkandawire, station manager of 5fm Radio Zambia, media collaboration between China and Africa should be boosted in order to combat Western media stereotypes and end reliance on Western media companies as a source of news, broadcast content, and information.

Gerald Mbanda, a researcher and publisher from Rwanda, and Amin Kef-Ranger, managing editor of The Calabash Newspaper, concur that China has aided Africa’s growth through a variety of means, including by giving African students the chance to study in China. Professionals in the media are among those who can contribute to the advancement of their continent.

The seminar is part of the annual CMG Africa event “Our Media Partners: CMG Media Corporation Forum.”

Participants from all around the African continent brainstormed ideas for improving understanding of the cooperation and development between the two sides as the annual event assessed the successes of China-Africa media cooperation over the previous year.
