Microblogging sites Facebook and Instagram are down for thousands of users across the world on Tuesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
Several users started reporting their inability to access the platforms at 3:00 PM GMT, with more than 500,000 reports of outages for Facebook and about dozens reports for Instagram.
In response, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X,
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
Meta’s status dashboard indicated that the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business was also having glitches.
Similarly, Downdetector, showed around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp.
The outage was among the top trending topics on X, formerly Twitter, with several users saying they had suddenly been logged out of the Meta-owned social media platforms.
