According to reports, Microsoft may have decided to shut down its African Development Centre (ADC) in Ikoyi, Lagos. While no official reason has been given for the move, sources say it is a business decision.
Staff were allegedly informed of the decision on Monday and hundreds of jobs are going to be on the line
Reliable sources say the decision is linked to the difficult business climate in Nigeria which is rooted n the current economic conditions.
Microsoft committed about $100 million to establish the ADC’S in both Lagos and Nairobi in 2022, to empower Africans to build innovative solutions on the Microsoft platform. Its goal was to recruit hundreds of engineers to develop solutions in sectors like fintech, agritech, and off-grid energy, across the continent
During its launch, Lagos ADC had over 200 staff members, including 120 engineers, with ambitions for expansion but it remains to be seen what will happen following the current development.
