Former Harambee Stars of Kenya coach Sebastien Migne says he will report Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to FIFA if he is not paid what he is owed soon.
Migne was made Kenya coach in May 2018 after taking over from Stanley Okumbi who served on an interim basis.
As coach of the Harambee Stars, he helped the team finish second behind Ghana in Group F of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 15 years. The Frenchman got sacked in August 2019 after losing to Tanzania in an African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match, but he has not been paid off completely.
“I have been patient enough, good and friendly as well to FKF but they are taking it for granted,” Migne said.
“We had an agreement in place, but several months down the line they have not honoured it and have not been honest with me. It seems that is their habit now considering Adel Amrouche and Bobby Williamson were not paid as well.
“They have until this summer, if they do not pay me I will go to Fifa, it is the only logical thing to do to get justice.”
Migne says he is not happy reporting the FKF to FIFA, but he does not have any other option.
“I love Kenya, even my family is currently based in the country. I have a house there because of the love I have developed, but sometimes some decisions have to be made,” Migne added.
“It is not my wish, but they still have time to pay me.”
Migne will not be the first ex Kenyan national team coach to sue the FKF. Scot, Bobby Williamson sued for wrongful dismissal in late 2019, and the Labour Court in Kenya ruled that the FKF pay the compensation of sh55million to him.
Adel Amrouche of Algeria also got dismissed by the FKF and he took his case to FIFA and the Federation was ordered to compensate him with sh109million. So far, the Federation has failed to pay Amrouches’ compensation and FIFA set May 18 as the day for the review and pass their verdict if the compensation has not been paid.
The verdict has not happened yet, but it is expected that Kenya will be locked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
