Police in Kenya have arrested Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth after he allegedly broke into the Finance office and attempted to take away some files.
Okoth along with seven other individuals said to be his accomplices were arrested after they were said to have carted away a bunch of files and several computers and transferred them to his office.
Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala confirmed that they received a report at around 3am that the county assembly speaker and the seven co-accused had broken into the finance office and were transferring files to the speaker’s office.
Wanjala said the accused locked themselves in the speaker’s office when they saw police officers until Wednesday 8am when they opened the office and they were whisked away.
The county police commander said they also recovered a bunch of files and several computers that were taken from the county assembly chief finance office.
The eight were taken to the county Directorate of Criminal Investigations office to record a statement pending prosecution.
Wanjala said investigations are underway to establish why the speaker and the seven other accused broke into the county assembly chief finance office.
