According to court documents, a lady in New York state has filed a civil lawsuit against Mike Tyson, alleging that the former boxing champion raped her in a limo in the early 1990s.
A temporary New York state provision that permits victims of sexual assault to pursue civil damages regardless of the statute of limitations was the basis for the woman’s case, which she filed in early January and sought the court to keep confidential.
Tyson was convicted in 1992 of raping model Desiree Washington, who was 18 at the time, and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The woman claims in a brief affidavit dated December 23, 2022 that she first encountered the boxer “in the early 1990s” in a nightclub. She then followed him to his limousine, where she claims he assaulted her before raping her.
“As a result of Tyson’s rape, I suffered and continue to suffer from physical, psychological and emotional injury,” she said.
Before becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion in the 1980s, Tyson, who was born in Brooklyn in 1966, had a difficult upbringing. He frightened his opponents with his rage in the ring and incredible striking strength.
However, he was unable to keep his titles following his prison term. Tyson famously bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear during their 1996 fight.
He continued to make headlines despite being gripped by despair and addiction, particularly for a one-man show in which he detailed the numerous highs and lows of his life. With his own line of cannabis products and as a podcast presenter, he recently entered the cannabis market.
