Burkina Faso’s military has confirmed that 11 troops were killed in an attack on its Army Base in Madjoari, in the country’s east, earlier on Thursday.

According to a statement from the armed forces’ communications unit, at least 20 people were wounded by projectiles and needed medical treatment.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the army base for now.

The army of Burkina Faso says its military air support killed at least 15 militants attempting to flee the raid.

It exhorted all forces to have a combat-ready mindset in order to destroy the adversary.

Col Paul-Henri Damiba, who deposed President Roch Kaboré in a coup on January 24, has promised to put the security situation first by enlisting more troops. He also tried to set up local groups to start talks with militants.

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been fighting an insurgency in the north.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch (HRW) have stated that armed insurgent groups, government security forces and militia in Burkina Faso are committing increased abuses against civilians as the conflict there intensifies and widens.

It should also be recalled that two week ago, News Central reported that Militants killed not less than 12 troops in a military facility in Namissiguima, Burkina Faso.
