The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, revealed that the Nigerian military neutralised 10,937 terrorists in 2024.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Buba detailed the military’s efforts, including reducing terrorist capabilities and recording 16,171 surrenders, encompassing combatants and their families.
Troops seized 8,815 weapons and 228,004 rounds of ammunition, while thwarting oil theft operations worth over ₦68.4 billion.
In the Northeast, Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 3,151 terrorists, arrested 2,503 suspects, and rescued 1,605 hostages. Recoveries included 1,802 AK47 rifles and 42,439 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In the North-Central region, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke accounted for 1,047 extremists neutralised and 1,782 hostages rescued. Similarly, in the North-West, Operation Hadarin Daji neutralised 2,906 terrorists and rescued 2,616 hostages.
The South-South saw the interception of 56.2 million litres of crude oil and the destruction of 2,612 illegal refining sites under Operation Delta Safe.
In the South-East, Operation UDO KA targeted IPOB/ESN operatives, neutralising 734 terrorists and arresting 974 suspects.
Buba emphasised the need for continued public support, stating, “The war is not for the armed forces alone but for all citizens.”
