The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has given his approval for the allocation of N13.1 billion to fund renovation, new construction of toilets, and the provision of furniture across secondary and primary schools in the Six Area Councils for the year 2024. The Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, made this announcement during an end-of-year media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dr. Hayyo explained that the earmarked amount would be distributed among the councils based on their specific school project needs. He emphasised the minister’s commitment to ensuring the execution of all projects in 2024.
“The minister of FCT, who has been described as Mr. Project, approves new constructions, renovations or rehabilitation, the provision of furniture, and the construction of toilets in FCT secondary and primary schools to the tune of over N13 billion,” said Hayyo.
He further highlighted that the distribution of funds among the area councils would consider the varying needs of each council, acknowledging that some councils have higher demands due to the presence of dilapidated and congested classrooms.
Additionally, Dr. Hayyo disclosed various training initiatives conducted by the Education Secretariat from January to December 2023, including staff training in London for the British Education Training Technology show and other programmes focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, e-library skills, computer-based testing, and online training for English teachers by the British Council.
In addressing challenges, Dr. Hayyo urged staff members to remain committed to achieving positive results and not be deterred by obstacles.
