Missing Boy Found in Abuja Church After Month-Long Search

NEC Issues Deadline for States to Report on State Police Establishment

A seven-year-old boy, Bright Simon, who had been missing for a month, was found in a church in the Tasha 1 area of Gwagwa, an Abuja suburb.

The boy was reportedly taken by a woman to the area for prayers in preparation for her trip to Imo State. The Ward Head, Dauda Bala, confirmed that the woman was apprehended by vigilantes and later handed over to the police after tensions rose, with local youths throwing stones at the vigilantes’ office.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun

Bright’s father, Simon Akawu, said a neighbour alerted his wife after spotting the boy near a market. The family rushed to the church and reunited with him.

The boy went missing on July 30, after his mother sent him to charge her mobile phone. The suspect claimed a reverend sister from Maitama, Abuja, told her the boy was an orphan and entrusted him to her care.

Efforts to reach FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh for comment were unsuccessful.
