The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) held a ceremony in N’Djamena, Chad, to honour troops for their remarkable achievements in Operation LAKE SANITY 2 (OPLS 2).
Chief Military Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
The event, hosted at MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, recognised the courage and dedication of personnel who played key roles in combating terrorism and restoring stability in the Lake Chad region.
The Minister of Armed Forces, Veterans, and War Victims of Chad, Issaka Maluoa Djamous, attended as the Special Guest of Honour.
In his address, Djamous praised the troops for their determination and sacrifices, describing the operation’s success as a symbol of resilience and unity. He also paid homage to the fallen soldiers, affirming that their contributions to peace and security would always be remembered.
Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali detailed the operation’s accomplishments, which included dismantling terrorist infrastructure, neutralising over 310 insurgents, and facilitating the surrender of more than 800 militants and their families.
General Ali noted the repatriation of over 30,000 displaced individuals and the arrest of over 160 terrorist collaborators, marking a significant blow to extremist networks in the region.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Head of Mission MNJTF, Defence Chiefs of Troop Contributing Countries, local government officials, and members of the diplomatic community.
Medals were awarded to commanders, troops, and other stakeholders for their exceptional contributions to OPLS 2, while the families of wounded or fallen soldiers received tokens of appreciation.
The event concluded with the commissioning of a newly remodelled photo stand at MNJTF Headquarters, symbolising a renewed commitment to regional security and cooperation.
