On Thursday, September 21, Nigerian Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, representing Adamawa North federal constituency, and Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, along with Iyabo Ojo, paid a visit to the family of the late musician Mohbad to offer their condolences.
During this condolence visit, Senator Abbo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, stated the government’s plans to establish a commission aimed at resolving disputes among artistes. This commission’s purpose is to prevent issues from escalating into irreparable and unhealthy rivalries within the industry.
Tonto Dikeh expressed her concerns regarding the state of the Nigerian music industry, “…The bullying is something that has become a norm in the industry, it is very unfortunate that we had to lose a beautiful shining light for us to realise that our industry has been dented. And it has been dented with so much, with drugs, bullying, with cultism, and we need it to stop! Yes, we are fighting for Mohbad, we cannot bring him back, but we are fighting for the future of this country,” she said, emphasising the need for change.
In memory of Mohbad, a tribute concert and procession will take place in the Lekki area of Lagos state at 5 pm. Additionally, a candle-light procession in honour of Mohbad was scheduled for the Fountain Square in Abuja.
