Nigerian music Promoter Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, widely known as Sam Larry has been arrested, a statement by Police Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin said.
The SP took to his official X handle to share the update with Nigerians. “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu aka Sam Larry is now in our custody. He is currently assisting with ongoing investigation,” he wrote.
Sam Larry’s arrest comes two weeks after the death of Nigerian Afrobeats superstar and former Marlian Records signee Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad (Imole).
A police source who favoured anonymity said he was detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday evening.
In his words, “Sam Larry was arrested at the airport after he arrived from Kenya. Our officers arrested him at the airport and he was immediately taken to the state police headquarters for questioning.”
Since the demand for justice over Mohbad’s death started to garner momentum, Sam Larry’s name featured prominently.
Mohbad’s death on September 12, caused an outrage as fans of the singer demanded for justice, calling for the immediate arrest of persons said to have allegedly had a hand in the late singer’s woes.
Mohbad himself had in 2022, called out his former record label for serially assaulting him because he made the decision to terminate his working relationship with them. The police had earlier invited the duo for questioning over Mohbad’s demise.
News Central reported that Marlian Records boss, Azeez Adeshina Fashola known professionally as Naira Marley few days ago, denied any involvement in the death of his ex-signee, saying the allegations were an attempt to malign his person.
Following the numerous lingering controversies surrounding Mohbad’s death, the Nigerian Police had his corpse exhumed for autopsy, but updates are yet to be shared on the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
