Mom Of South African Teen Killed By Police Pleads For Justice

Bridget Harris, the mother of a South African Boy who was killed by policemen, has pleaded with Protea Magistrate Court against granting the accused officers bail.

Nateniël Julies, a 16-year-old Downs Syndrome patient, was shot dead by the police, on the night of Wednesday, August 26, after he failed to respond to questioning. His family said that he had gone to the tuck shop to buy biscuits when he encountered the officers.

Gauteng premier David Makhura said the boy was caught in a shoot-out between a gang and the police.

Police arrested Sgt Scorpion Simon Ndyalvane, Const Caylene Whiteboy and Sgt Vorster Netshiongolo of the Crime Prevention Unit in Eldorado Park in connection with the killings. Ndyalvane and Whiteboy are charged with premeditated murder, defeating the ends of justice, discharging a firearm in a public space and unlawful possession of ammunition while Netshiongolo is charged with accessory to murder after the fact, defeating the ends of justice, possession of prohibited ammunition and accessory after the fact.

On Thursday, when the trio appeared in court Bridget pleaded with Magistrate David Mhango for justice, and that the accused not be granted bail.

Magistrate Mhango remanded the accused in custody and adjourned the matter to September 22 for a formal bail application.

Jules was buried on September 5.

More than 130,000 people have signed an online petition to demand justice for Jules.
