Money is not behind marathon choice -Kipchoge

Olympic champion, Eliud Kipchoge insists his choice not to run at the World Championships but to have another attempt at running the under two hours marathon was made to test his body and has nothing to do with money.

Earlier in the week, Kipchoge announced he will have another go at trying to break the record in the specially organised race to hold between late September and early October.

In his first attempt, the 35-year-old ran two hours and 25 seconds, failing to break the two-hour set time on the Monza Formula One racetrack on May 6, 2017.

“My team doesn’t put money in front and for sure it’s not about business and money involved.”

“The sponsor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, loves sports and wants me to try it again. It is always good to challenge myself and the world. It’s good to make history, it’s good to leave a memorable mark in athletics, “added Kipchoge.

“There is nothing impossible in this world and that is why I want to erase the notion that no human being is limited.”

Kenyan Kipchoge holds the World Marathon record which he set last year in Berlin when he won in two hours, one minute and 39 seconds. He also won this year’s London Marathon in two hours, two minutes and 37 seconds in April 28.
