More than 2,000 Nigerians were killed in several clashes between July and September according to socio-economic intelligence group, SB Morgen (SBM) Intelligence.
In a report published on Tuesday, it said the media reported 2,287 deaths across the country in the third quarter of the year.
The killings included civilians, security personnel, bandits, terrorists, armed robbers, and kidnappers.
In the last three months, 1,153 civilians were killed, with 675 bandits also shelled. One hundred and seventy (170) Boko Haram members were killed by security agents with 105 soldiers also killed in the process. The report also revealed the deaths of 27 cultists, 29 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), 67 police officers, 23 kidnappers, 10 Vigilante members, 1 Customs Officer, 24 Armed robbers and 23 kidnappers. Two immigration officers, one NSCDC and Customs officer also lost their lives in the last quarter.
Wild, Wild West In The North West And North Central
In North West Nigeria comprising Zamfara, Kaduna and Katsina states most notably, 961 deaths were recorded. Zamfara recorded 495 killings, Kaduna 259, Katsina 107 amongst others.
Recall that banditry and kidnapping have been big challenges in the region with the respective states taking critical steps to stem the problem. These have hardly impacted on the deaths with a little difference in the number of casualties in comparison with the last quarter.
The North West was worst-hit in a region which has 85% of the deaths recorded in the quarter under review.
In the North Central, 646 deaths were recorded with Plateau State which witnessed a bitter ethnoreligious tension in August and September recording 138 deaths. Niger State, just below Zamfara on the overall most-hit list recorded 306 deaths. Benue recorded 113 deaths amongst others.
The North East reported 336 deaths between July and September, South East 137, South West 102 deaths, Southern Nigeria (South-South) 105 deaths.
In Borno in the period under review, 285 people were killed with Gombe, Bauchi and Abia reporting the lowest deaths.
One hundred and seventy six (176) security agents lost their lives in the last quarter.
