Morocco Bans Flights from UK over rising COVID-19 Cases

Morocco has banned all flights to and from the UK due to rising Coronavirus cases.

A number of flights between the two countries have been cancelled ahead of the travel suspension, which took effect at 11.59 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Morocco’s weekly rate of Coronavirus cases on October 14 was just 10.4 per 100,000 people, according to data released by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

In comparison, the UK currently has a rate of 445.5 per 100,000 people.

Flights from Gatwick to Marrakech have been cancelled by EasyJet.

The airline told passengers: “As we’ll be unable to fly to Morocco in order to operate any return flights after today, we’ve taken the decision to cancel your flight with us today.”

There are other airlines that have done the same, including British Airways which cancelled a flight from Heathrow to the same destination.

Families in England and Wales who booked holidays in Morocco for next week will be affected by the ban.

The Moroccan National Office of Airports said the policy will remain in place “until further notice”.

They announced the suspension on Twitter, noting that both Germany and the Netherlands would be affected.
