Moroccan police, in collaboration with Spanish security forces, have confiscated 1.488 tonnes (3,280lb) of cocaine in a joint operation. The illicit substance was concealed within banana boxes inside a shipping container on a vessel originating from South America en route to Turkey.

The seizure occurred on Tuesday at the Tanger Med port in northern Morocco. Authorities suspect that the cocaine was part of an international drug smuggling operation and are currently conducting investigations.

This interception follows another significant bust just a day earlier when authorities seized nearly 363kg of cocaine from a truck attempting to enter Morocco through the border with Mauritania.

Morocco, located in northern Africa, has been identified as a crucial route for smuggling drugs from South America to Europe.
