Morocco Issues First Permits for Cannabis Production (News Central TV)

As a result of a law passed last year, a Moroccan governmental body has reportedly awarded the first 10 licenses for the use of cannabis in industry, medicine, and for export.

According to the agency, farmers who form cooperatives in the northern mountain regions of Al Houceima, Taounat, and Chefchaouen would progressively be permitted to grow marijuana to supply the legal market.

Cannabis is already widely grown illegally in Morocco, and the new law that the parliament passed last year forbids its usage for recreational purposes.

The goal of the measure is to increase farmer incomes and shield them from drug smugglers who control the cannabis trade and illegally ship it to Europe.

Meanwhile, Liberian authorities have seized $100 million worth of cocaine at a suburb in the capital, Monrovia. With assistance from the US international narcotics agency, the seizure was carried out on Saturday in the village of Topoe.

According to the Liberian Justice Minister Musa Dean, two suspects, one from Guinea-Bissau and one from Lebanon were detained. The haul was pure cocaine, according to him.
