Morocco is getting set to host the 7th edition of the International Water and Sanitation Technology Exhibition (SITeau), which will take place in Casablanca, the country’s largest city between June 7 and June 9 2022.
The event, which will bring together professionals, academics, and other stakeholders both at the national and international levels, will spotlight issues bordering on water, sanitation, and energy, as well as seek sustainable solutions to addressing them.
The North African country has consistently prioritised water governance, and is keen on harnessing opportunities to find a permanent solution to the over 30 years of water crisis through improved policies and strategies to find and secure water for Moroccans.
In a related development, a new report launched by Kenya’s Water and Sanitation for Urban Poor (WSUP), indicate economic potential of Sh6.2 billion by 2030 in the sanitation industry.
WSUP Country Programme Manager, Kariuki Mugo said the market value for water infrastructure and services in the Country is currently at Sh3.2 billion and is projected to hit Sh6.2 billion by 2030.
While speaking during a virtual conference of the Fifth African Conference of Science Journalists, Mugo highlighted the economic value of investments in the water and sanitation sector.
He added that through the support of the African Minister Council of Water and Sanitation, an African Union (AU) institution based in Abuja, the sanitation sector is expected to make huge progress and generate money for the economy.
The anticipated SITeau will serve as an opportunity for exchange of knowledge and experience from diverse groups of people, to arrive at refined solutions to the water challenge that has plagued the country for so many years.
Morocco is one of the African countries most impacted by climate change and its associated challenges such as water and food security, economic meltdown, amongst others.
