Egyptian Premier League giants Al Ahly have unveiled Pitso Mosimane as their new head coach, days after he confirmed his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mosimane left Sundowns weeks after leading the team to a domestic treble and a hattrick of league titles for the club.
Mosimane signed a two-year deal with the Egyptian powerhouse, and is expected to lead his new team to continental glory.
Mosimane replaces Swiss coach Rene Weiler who was let go after a one-year stint with Al Ahly, winning the Egyptian Premier League title, a record 42nd for the club.
“The club’s board of directors decided in its meeting today, Thursday, 1-10-2020, headed by captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, to approve what was mentioned in the memorandum submitted by the Planning Committee in coordination with the general supervisor of the ball, which included the following.” A club statement read.
“Termination of the contractual relationship with Mr Rene Weiler, coach of the first team, in accordance with the terms of his contract with the club due to the difficulty of achieving his urgent demands, which were not included in the contract clauses and contradict the interest and stability of the team at this important stage, as well as the players’ need to focus and prepare Powers for the next stage.”
The Red Devils stated that Mosimane will bring his two assistants, physical trainer and performance analyst with him.
“The contract with Mr Pitso Mosimane, South African Technical Director of the first team, as of tomorrow, Friday, 2-10-2020, for a period of two seasons, with his assistant, which includes a general coach, a physical trainer and a performance analyst.”
“Also joining is captain Sami, assistant coach. And Belgian Michel Yancon, coach of the goalkeepers, who were kept on, and captain Sayed Abdel Hafeez continued as director of the ball,” the statement read.
Mosimane joins Al Ahly just in time to take charge of the league game against Al Mokawloon.
