Mozambique’s Ministry of Health (MISAU) has recorded two coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths in the last 24 hours.
The ministry said the deceased died after their clinical condition worsened, while in hospital in Maputo, the country’s capital.
It added that the dead, both Mozambicans, were seven and 89 years old
“Both cases were reported on 22 September and deaths were reported on Saturday, 3 and today, 4 October, with Mozambique currently counting 66 deaths due to Covid-19,” the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
With regard to new infections, MISAU said that in the last 24 hours, 1,337 suspected cases of contamination with Covid-19 were tested of which 1,190 were negative and 147 were positive for the disease.
Of the 147 new cases reported, 143 are individuals of Mozambican nationality and 4 are foreigners – one South African nationality and three Portuguese.
“All new cases reported today result from local transmission. Seventy-six cases (51.7%) are female and 71 (48.3%) are male (9 cases are children under 5 years old and 4 cases are individuals over 65 years old),” the ministry said.
Maputo City remains the region of the country with the most daily positive cases. In the last 24 hours, it registered 104, corresponding to 70.7% of the total cases reported today across the country, followed by Maputo Province, with 26 cases (17.7%).
The cases reported today are in isolation and the process of mapping their contacts is underway.
Mozambique has total 9,196 confirmed coronavirus cases 9,196 positive cases: 8,901 are locally transmitted and 295 imported.
To date, October 4, 2020, 144,618 suspected cases of Covid-19 have been cumulatively tested in Mozambique.
The ministry said: “Cumulative 924 inpatients, of which 44 (2 new hospital admissions, all in Maputo City), are currently in the Covid-19 Inpatient Centers and in other Private Hospital Units.
“Most patients are in the city of Maputo and suffer from various chronic pathologies, the most frequent of which are hypertension and diabetes.
MISAU added that three people were discharged in the last 24 hours.
