Multiple people have been reported trapped after a two-storey building collapsed at 15 Iga Idungaran, near the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, on Lagos Island, on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 11 am, and followed a devastating fire that engulfed the Dosunmu Market in April.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident and noted that 14 other buildings were seriously impacted by the fire.
News Central reports that last month, four buildings collapsed due to the intensity of a fire that raged through a section of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island.
Rescue operations are currently underway to save victims trapped in the rubble.
Farinloye stated that emergency responders, including NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority, are already at the scene of the event.
At the time of this report, no fatalities had been reported.
