Mumina Gallo Bonaya, Chief Administrative Secretary, State Departments for Early Learning & Basic Education and University Education and Research has resigned her position to contest the Marsabit Women Representative seat.
This is coming on the heels of resignation by education Chief Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan who declared interest in the Mandera County governorship seat.
Announcing his intention at the Jogoo House head office, Hassan said he has been tried and tested in several capacities in government.
Some trade union officials from the national office and branch level have also declared their intentions to contest in the upcoming August 9 general elections.
“There is no doubt that I have led in very significant positions in this country. Currently, I am the deputy minister for education and there is no doubt that I am the true candidate for the governorship,” said Hassan.
For the post of governor for Isiolo, Universities Fund (UF) chairman Halakhe Waqo has also expressed interest to contest.
Before his appointment at the Fund, Waqo was Chief Executive Officer at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) chairman Kilemi Mwiria also said he will be contesting the Tigania West constituency seat. “Yes, I will be in the race for the MP seat,” said Dr Mwiria.
Central Regional Director of Education John Lekakeny Ololtuaa has also quit Public Service and is set to contest the Kilgoris Parliamentary seat in this year’s forthcoming polls.
Ololtuaa was employed as a school teacher in 1993 and rose through the ranks to become the regional director.
He served as a District Education Officer in Suba, Mbita and Bomet. Also served as County Director of Education in Bomet and Kajiado Counties.
And as a Regional Director of education, he served in Eastern Region, Nairobi Region and Rift Valley Region.
Other frontliners in the political ring are the officers of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
At KUPPET, nearly all officials at the national office have expressed interest in various political seats ranging from governorship and MP.
KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori will contest the Homa Bay governorship seat. Union national chairman Omboko Milemba will defend his Emuhaya MP seat.
National treasurer, Wicks Mwethi Njenga will contest the Kabet MPs eat as national vice chairman Julius Korir go for Soy constituency seat.
Sammy Chelanga, KUPPET national secretary (tertiary) will contest the Baringo North constituency seat as Henry Obwocha, national secretary (secondary) go for Kitutu Masaba MP seat.
In the western region for Bungoma East, Aggrey Namisi, Patrick Chungani of Kakamega East and Archedeous Liyayi of Kakamega South will all contest political seats.
In Nyanza, Lucy Machuki, Executive Secretary Gucha will contest the County Woman Representative position. Cornel Ojuok, Executive Secretary of Homa Bay will go for an MCA seat.
In a similar development, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of East African Community and Regional Development, Adan Mohamed has resigned to run for Mandera Governor.
