The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has dispatched a high-level fact-finding team to Zamfara State to investigate allegations of civilian casualties during an airstrike on Saturday.
The team, led by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Coordination and Cooperation in the Civil-Military Relations Branch of NAF Headquarters, is tasked with engaging state and local government officials and other stakeholders to comprehensively assess the incident.
In a statement on Monday, NAF spokesperson AVM Olusola Akinboyewa said, “The CAS, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has dispatched a fact-finding team to fully investigate the incident and provide a detailed report for further action.”
He added, “The NAF is committed to the highest level of professionalism and transparency in its operations, in line with global standards. Protecting the life and well-being of every Nigerian remains integral to the Service’s ethos.”
The team plans to ensure public trust while refining operational procedures to minimise harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure.
