Officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted a raid on a shop in Lagos State that was producing and packaging counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
In a post on their X handle on Monday, NAFDAC announced that the counterfeit drinks and other associated materials, valued at millions of naira, were destroyed and seized during the operation.
The statement read, “NAFDAC has discovered an illicit production facility for fake alcoholic beverages located on Offin Road, Balogun, Lagos Island.”
“Following a complaint, the team found a shop that had been converted for the production and packaging of counterfeit alcoholic drinks.
“Various bottles of the illegal products were destroyed on-site, while packaging materials, empty bottles, and repackaged beverages were confiscated.
“The total estimated value of the destroyed and seized items exceeds ₦30 million.”
Indicating that investigations are ongoing, the agency urged consumers to purchase alcoholic drinks solely from trustworthy vendors.
Additionally, the public was encouraged to report any suspicious products and activities to their nearest NAFDAC office.
