The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Counter Terrorism Centre to combat counterfeit drugs.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, made the announcement on Friday.
The National Counter Terrorism Centre, which operates under the Office of the National Security Adviser, will collaborate with NAFDAC in this initiative.
According to NAFDAC, this partnership is part of the National Action Plan aimed at halting the distribution of medicines used for criminal activities, including terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent extremism in Nigeria.
Professor Adeyeye highlighted that the MoU is crucial for reducing youth fatalities and ensuring that potentially dangerous chemicals are managed properly.
She also emphasised that the agreement would help prevent the misuse of hazardous chemicals for developing weapons of mass destruction by non-state actors.
National Counter Terrorism Centre Coordinator Adamu-Garba Laka added that the MoU will address the country’s criminality challenges effectively.
“By combining our efforts and forging a united front against terrorism, we are better equipped to confront this multifaceted challenge and uphold the safety and security of our country,” he said
