The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed an unlicensed production facility in the Ipaye area of Iba, Lagos, for manufacturing unregistered cosmetic products under unhygienic conditions.
NAFDAC, in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), shared images and videos from the operation, highlighting the health risks posed by the unregulated items. Confiscated products included body washes, skin-lightening creams, cleansing soaps, and children’s skincare items, all produced without required safety approvals.
Following weeks of surveillance, officials raided the facility, seizing packaging materials that indicated the operation aimed for mass distribution. The site has been sealed, and one individual linked to the illegal activities is in custody, aiding investigations.
NAFDAC assured the public of its dedication to safeguarding health, urging consumers to report suspicious or unregistered products. “We remain committed to protecting public health by removing unsafe products from the market,” the agency stated.
