NAFDAC Shuts Illegal Cosmetics Factory in Lagos

NAFDAC Intensifies Efforts to Combat Fake Drugs in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal cosmetics facility located at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

In a post shared on its X handle on Tuesday, the agency revealed that the factory was closed after operatives raided the premises and uncovered a range of unregistered chemicals, packaging materials, and expired products being revalidated for sale.

During the operation, the agency seized approximately 1,200 boxes of counterfeit cosmetics. The confiscated items included mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding papers, and thinners, all of which were taken to the NAFDAC headquarters for further investigation.

“The Agency estimates the street value of the seized items at approximately ₦50 million,” NAFDAC stated.

The agency also advised the public to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
