The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have launched a joint task force to strengthen the enforcement of compulsory insurance laws across the country.
The announcement was made on Thursday at NAICOM’s headquarters in Abuja.
The newly established committee is expected to drive compliance with existing insurance laws, including the mandatory enforcement of motor vehicle insurance, which will officially commence on February 1, 2024.

The committee has been tasked with developing and implementing strategies to ensure nationwide compliance with the Insurance Act and related regulations.
It will also focus on fostering collaboration between NAICOM and the police while providing training and capacity-building programmes for personnel involved in enforcing insurance laws.
As part of its mandate, the committee will assess existing challenges in insurance enforcement and propose effective solutions.
It will also establish protocols for joint enforcement operations, recommend policy reforms to improve compliance, and undertake public awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians on compulsory insurance requirements.
