Cubana Chief Priest, real name Pascal Okechukwu, has been granted bail in the amount of N10 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos State, after pleading not guilty to charges of tampering with and abusing the Naira.
Justice Kehinde Ogundare granted Chief Priest bail with two sureties who must each provide the same amount as the bail sum.
Cubana Chief Priest was arraigned before Justice Ogundare on three counts related to the abuse of the naira by allegedly spraying and tampering with it at a social event, which is contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The incident allegedly occurred on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, where Cubana Chief Priest was said to have sprayed the Naira while dancing during the event.
Additionally, he was accused of tampering with funds in the denomination of N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for a duration of two hours.
Chief Priest’s bail comes days after controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye “Bobrisky” was sentenced to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Bobrisky was sentenced after pleading guilty to one of the charges of mutilating the Naira levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
